Subject: Re: [mdbirding] wood thrush, hummer

This morning I saw a fledgling Wood Thrush outside the window. It has a
very stubby tail, which makes me wonder how fledgings manage to steer when
they don't have much rudder (and land without a counterbalance). I am also
pleased to report that at least one Hummingbird is at the feeder, now that
the Tulip Poplars have dropped their petals (sorry I can't remember who
pointed out that correlation, but thanks). The hummer perches a couple of
feet above the feeder, which is a Humzinger that hangs from a branch of
Disanthus. She has been guarding it all day, which makes me wonder if she
had any babies and if they are already grown, since she is hanging around
the feeder instead of a nest. I am hoping the bird will also be attracted
to the Indian Pinks, which are just blooming, and the sages that are
starting to bud.
