Subject: [mdbirding] Annapolis Peregrine Falcons: update

Here is the latest:
-one chick, the male, took his first flight on Friday. He ended up in the water and was picked up by a passing boater. USFWS service took possession of the youngster yesterday and should be delivering him to his parents later this week.

The two female chicks are ???

I've been visiting the site daily, and up until today, I've only observed the adult female, always acting rather normal. So I just assumed that all three chicks were still in the box.

This afternoon, in the downpours, all I noted was the adult male. It could easily be my imagination, but he appeared to be looking down at the water a lot... which is not a behavior I witness too often.

I'm not certain of the timing for when/if/how falcons fledge in succession, but if the two young ladies haven't already, I suspect they'll be trying to fly tomorrow, Thursday or Friday.

There is the possibility that they attempted already (and met with success or water?), and I just missed it.

My schedule is a bit busy for tomorrow morning, so if anyone is up for helping with a falcon-watch, please email me.

At the viewing site, I've got a kayak that can be used in an emergency. What's more, there is always a crabber or two who can be 'yelled to' if the chick goes in the river. They'll help. Lastly, there are people who can possibly help with a powerboats, should the river be empty of boaters.

Thanks all,
