Sorry for late post; computer problems. Very pleasant weather for a walk on the eastern portion of Cromwell Valley Park, along the Minebank stream and nearby area.
BALTIMORE ORIOLES & WARBLING VIREOS were still numerous. One ORCHARD ORIOLE spotted. Whiffed on the usual MD Yellow- throat, Parula Warbler & Ovenbird but was rewarded by great looks at a male YELLOW WARBLER.
On the far east meadow I observed a KINGBIRD chivvy a passing over- head RED SHOULDERED HAWK. Reminded me of a similar attack in the Woodstock area a while back, with me being the attackee! With every swoop, it hit/pecked my cap pretty hard. A bit later today, I was attached in milder fashion by a TREE SWALLOW, as I passed its box just off the path. It only swooped at my head, but always pulled up at the last second. Other birds noted: BELTED KINGFISHER E. Wood Pewee Barn Swallow Carolina C'dee Tufted Tit N. Mockingbird (one of its songs suggested RS Hawk) A. Robin E. Bluebird (with young) BG Gnatcatcher RE Vireo RW Blackbird C. Grackle SCARLET TANAGER (female) N. Cardinal I. Bunting (heard) House Finch Goldfinch FIELD SPARROR (heard) Chipping Sparrow (with young)
