I have not noticed a decrease in cuckoo abundance this year, but then again I was not birding around MD very much in late May or early June this year, except locally in southern PG and a little bit in Charles. On June 10 I completed a BBS route (Breeding Bird Survey) for Pomfret (Charles County), and had quite a few cuckoos (10, all YBCUs). Out of 50 stops, I had YBCU at 9 of them (stop #s 3, 14, 20, 28, 33, 35, 43, 44, and 48). All observations were singing/calling individuals.

We had one in our yard on Tuesday and this morning, one flew across Rt. 4 in Solomons as I was waiting for the traffic light by the CVS. I wonder why they were so late in arriving?
