Subject: [MDBirding] Group Update - FAQs, Photo Guidelines, RBA tags

Hi All,

We wanted to give a quick group update with some of the behind-the-scene
changes. First we've compiled a pdf list of Frequently Asked Questions and
their answers at the link below. Notably, we now have an answer to the
folks having difficulty managing multiple email addresses on a google
account (#7). Also, we made a change in the group guidelines involving
attached photos. The past version did not specify which uses were
appropriate. Please see the new wording at the end of this email.

Guidelines and FAQs are available here:

Finally, we're happy to announce a new feature, RBA tags. Topic threads can
now be tagged by group moderators. Our first trial-run with this feature is
going to be with the very familiar acronym RBA (rare bird alert). This tag
will be used to help mark posts of interest to the MD/DC Records Committee
and to flag any other posts of barely annual or less than annual
species. Sorting
and searching by this tag can now be done on the group website. You can
also browse all past and future posts with this tag at the following link
https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!tags/mdbirding/RBA

Thanks again for everyone's support/help/feedback in this first week,

Jared Fisher
Bethesda, MD

Photo Guidelines:
10) Attaching images should be done sparingly. Not everyone has unlimited
bandwidth. Please
consider alternate hosts such as www.flickr.com for sharing images. You can
then include a link to the
image within your post. However, we would like to try and use this new
feature in a sensible way. Valid
reasons for attaching photos might include *sharing documentation for
rarities, facilitating ID *
*discussions, sharing maps to locations, and discussing unusual plumages
and behaviors.* When
attaching photos, please limit yourself to a small number of files (1-3
files). If possible, crop or otherwise
resize to ensure file size is manageable (<500KB).
