Jim makes a good point, and this is why I reported the bird as heard only. I
also heard and saw the expected Scarlet Tanagers in the area. This call was
definitely not an ambiguous-sounding call, but it doesn't mean a Scarlet
Tanager wasn't doing a very good Summer Tanager. We've recently had a
Black-throated Blue Warbler doing a Hooded in Garrett recently, so nothing
should be taken for granted without a confirming visual. I reported this
because it's of interest and worth making note of. If you're in the area,
keep your ears peeled.

FYI: I don't know Mark Johnson 2, but I went on a chase similar to his
in Allegany County once, the bird turned out to be a Scarlet Tanager
that just lacked the burry quality to its song. I've had related
species come in to playback of a different species song before.

I'm not saying it couldn't be a Summer Tanager, just suggesting
caution regarding accepting a heard-only ID of an out-of-range bird.
