Today's edition of Inside Higher Ed (an online
newspaper that covers college and university issues)
carries a brief podcast with David Luther, faculty
member at George Mason University, explaining his
research on correlations between urban noise and
historic changes in bird song. His research was
conducted on White-Crowned Sparrows in San Francisco
and the podcast includes song clips illustrating the

Perhaps this phenomenon has some relevance with
respect to the recent discussions here of unexpected
sounding songs from some of our local birds.
