Yesterday evening around 6:45 pm, came across the four Common Ravens (previously reported by Paul O'Brien) in the back of Derwood Industrial Park. This area is off Gude Dr East and just across Rt 355 from the College Garden's neighborhood. One bird was perched on Global Bldg Supply at 128 Derwood Circle and the other 3 were perched atop a bldg at 375 Derwood Circle. All calling and flying down occasionally to gravel lot behind the 375 bldg and adjacent to METRO tracks to snag some french fries from a discarded styrofoam lunch tray. Don't think I have ever had this close a look at ravens in Mont Co. There were a few Fish Crows around as well, so it was interesting to compare.
I left the industrial park to go nearby to check if I could find any remnants of nest in some towers in the Rockville Gas Plant fields off Dover Rd. No evidence of a nest. When I returned to industrial park about 7:15 pm, french fries and styrofoam tray were gone and so were the ravens.
