Hi all. Lisa and I went out west this weekend for the second time in June, to tick off a few year birds we had missed three weeks ago. It was, as always, a lovely trip and we went three for five on our target species (yes on RB Nuthatch, Purple Finch and BB Cuckoo, still Least Flycatcher and Vesper Sparrow-less).
Not surprisingly, activity in general was much reduced from early June. Best bird was the BB Cuckoo that came out and serenaded us from a tree 25 feet away at Mount Nemo WMA. One of our best looks ever at this species. Most surprising bird was a young Common Loon on Piney Reservoir - but we noted that this does not show up as a rarity in eBird.
