Subject: [MDBirding] Bald Eagle excitement this morning

I was surprised to observe an adult Bald sitting on a fence post this morning in a field across the street from my house on (5921) Picnic Woods Rd. I wasout @0615ish, but failed to see it then although it may well have been there.I first observed it at 0830ish when i was taking the dog on the "long" walk. Over almost the next two hours it remained on the post. At that point i was getting concerned that it might be unwell, but soon thereafter it was observed to fly away by one of my neighbors - just missed seeingthe takeoffmyself. On a bike ride the previous eve (Sunday) i thought i had heard an eagle calling on Sumantown Rd in the vicinity (west of) the new FRED CO conservation park.I scanned the skies and saw nothing. Perhaps it was also perched on a fence post at that time. The locations are less than 3 miles apart as an eagle flies. Neither location would seem to be attractive to an adult BE, but it goes to show thatyou
never can tell.

After this observation of one of our largest birds, I finished the morning by observing one of our smallest, a hummer, come to the feeder. I'm mostly seeing females, but had a shy male Sunday eve who couldn't quite bring himself to come TO the feeder, although he came close.
