Top bird this week is GULL-BILLED TERN in MD.
Other birds of interest include BLUE-WINGED TEAL, NORTHERN BOBWHITE, WILSON'S STORM-PETREL, LEAST BITTERN, YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, MISSISSIPPI KITE, BROAD-WINGED HAWK, PEREGRINE FALCON, terns, EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE*, possible COMMON GROUND-DOVE*, COMMON RAVEN, PURPLE MARTIN, sparrows including HENSLOW'S, DICKCISSEL and RED CROSSBILL.
Two adult GULL-BILLED TERNS were at Skimmer Island, Worcester Co, MD on June 25.
A BLUE-WINGED TEAL continues to be seen at Schoolhouse Pond, Prince George's Co, MD with a report from June 25.
A NORTHERN BOBWHITE was heard at the Laurel Hill Golf Course, Fairfax Co, VA on June 24.
At least six WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS were just off Grandview Beach in Hampton, VA on June 19. A flock of 29 WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS were seen from the Ocean City Inlet, Worcester Co, MD on June 25.
A LEAST BITTERN was singing in the early morning on June 19 from the ponds closest to the river at Lilypons, Frederick Co, MD. An adult YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was at the Bladensburg Waterfront Park, Prince George's Co, MD on June 24.
Three MISSISSIPPI KITES were flying at the P. B. Smith Elementary School near Warrenton, VA on June 20. A BROAD-WINGED HAWK was circling over the Ourisman Honda/WV access road, Anne Arundel Co, MD on June 23.
Two PEREGRINE FALCONS, one adult and one young, were conducting flight lessons near the James Monroe building in Richmond, VA on June 22.
There was a steady stream of LEAST and ROYAL TERNS working the Tred Avon River seen from the Bachelor Point Boatyard, Talbot Co, MD on June 21. On June 22, two LEAST TERNS were flying near the dock at the Bladensburg Waterfront Park, Prince George's Co, MD. A LEAST TERN was at the wetland area of the Swan Creek dredge containment facility, Anne Arundel Co, MD on June 22. A SANDWICH TERN was at Ft. Story Beach near Virginia Beach, VA on June 19. A pair of SANDWICH TERNS was seen on the beach at South Bower's Beach, Kent Co, DE on June 21. Two SANDWICH TERNS were loafing with other terns on Skimmer Island, Worcester Co, MD on June 25.
A EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE* was found June 14 during a Breeding Bird Survey at Lehman's Mill Rd and Marsh Pike, Washington Co, MD. One dove was seen again on June 19 and 20 in trees in the back yard of the brick house on the SE corner of the intersection. One dove was seen flying over the area on June 21. There was an unconfirmed report of a COMMON GROUND-DOVE* at Chincoteague NWR, Accomack Co, VA, seen on June 24
Two COMMON RAVENS were seen June 22 at the Swan Creek dredge containment facility, in northern Anne Arundel Co, MD. Four COMMON RAVENS were snagging French fries in the back of the Derwood Industrial Park, Montgomery Co, MD on June 22.
More than 3,000 PURPLE MARTINS descended into the trees on 17th Street near the Farmer's Market on Richmond, VA on June 24.
A few VESPER SPARROWS were near Harmony, Caroline Co, MD on June 23. Three HENSLOW'S SPARROWS and two VESPER SPARROWS were on Russell Road in Garrett Co, MD on June 24. Two HENSLOW'S SPARROWS were heard on Porter Cemetery Road, Allegany Co, MD on the same day.
A BLUE GROSBEAK, unusual for Garrett Co, MD, was on Russell Road on June 24.
DICKCISSELS were reported from a number of locations this past week including along Broadfording Road, Washington Co, MD; along Rte. 9 from Whitehall Neck Road to Woodland Beach, DE; east of Berryville, Clarke Co, VA; North Vaughn, Worcester Co, MD and at various locations in Frederick Co, MD.
Three RED CROSSBILLS were seen along FR 85 between VA924 and Bother Knob, Rockingham Co, VA on June 24.
