Another positive report for Worcester and surrounding counties yesterday. Thanks to Matt H. for suggestions. Highlights:
Eastern Neck NWR -- BROWN-HEADED NUTHATCHES and PINE WARBLERS along the Tubby Cove Boardwalk. Too many bugs; didn't spend a lot of time here.
Truitt's Landing -- SEASIDE SPARROWS throughout the marsh, a distant TRICOLORED HERON flyby, FORSTER'S TERNS, and a very cooperative PROTHONOTARY WARBLER.
West O.C. Pond -- GLOSSY IBIS.
Sunset Park in O.C. -- COMMON TERN. Didn't go out far enough for storm-petrels.
Skimmer Island -- BLACK SKIMMERS, 2 ROYAL TERNS flying over the Rt. 50 bridge, AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS, 9 BROWN PELICANS, 1 LITTLE BLUE HERON.
E.A. Vaughn North -- BOAT-TAILED GRACKLE, YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, BLUE GROSBEAK. The bugs were horrendous so I did most of the birding from my car.
Back to Truitt's Landing -- 1 SALTMARSH SPARROW that flew into the reeds right next to my car, 12 GLOSSY IBIS, and many more herons/egrets than I had earlier in the day.
Elliott Island -- No Barn Owls, and I didn't stay late enough for Black Rails, but I did have 2 singing CHUCK-WILL'S-WIDOWS and several RAILS that I recorded and need to ID to species level.
Tanyard Marsh -- Parked along the side of the road for about 30 mins but didn't hear any avian activity, just frogs.
