I went out to Big Pool today and was able to relocate the Great White Heron at the previously posted location. I got spectacular views of the bird as it feed in the shallows close to the shore. It was best viewed from Stop 1 along the Beaver Pond Trail. I viewed the bird from within 30 or 40 feet at this location. Please note that this location is probably not visible from the boat launch on Big Pool. I parked just outside the registered camping area (as described yesterday), where the trailhead for the Beaver Pond Trail is. Stop 1 was within sight of the parking area. The bird was feeding in the shallows close to shore the whole time I was there, and was still present when I left.
