Subject: DC Brown Pelican - YES!

Hi Everyone,

The Juvenile Brown Pelican seen this morning by District Dept of Environment staff is still out there (11:45 am) on the Anacostia River by the Navy Dock where the US Barry is docked. According to Paul Pisano this is only the second record in DC (if I read heard him right!) The bird sat in the middle of the river for a long period of time and then mad an attempt to roost on a light post on the dock. Unfortunately, 2 cormorants didn't want to share so it flew back to its mid-river roost.

Wayne Baunmgartner and Dan Rauch both got good photos. It's important to note that Dan first heard about this bird by his river survey team. Last summer DDOE staff also alerted birders to the presence of a juv. White Ibis at Kenilworth Park.

Way to go DDOE!!!!!
