Hi all,
Betsy and I started the day at New Germany State Park HQ in Garrett to try for RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH. We were not disappointed. Our third try for these birds this year was a success. We immediately had one individual calling and it was soon joined by three others.
We then worked our way to Russell Rd, hoping to find a grouse or two crossing the road on the way there for a photo. No luck.
We dipped on Russell Rd Blue Grosbeak but did have a COMMON NIGHTHAWK flying around calling and three VESPER SPARROWS.
At North Branch in Allegheny, there were only KILLDEER present along with some Mallards.
Our next destination was Ft Frederick for the GREAT WHITE HERON. We found it from the road, then walked the path around the Beaver Pond. It was between stops 3 and 4. Best views and photos were had from the tow path. I will post these later tonight. Beautiful bird and great find Mark!
Hughes Hollow held no interesting gallinules or kites of any flavor. Only humid, hot air.
Cheers and good birding, Mike Burchett Betsy Bangert Ocean Pines, MD
