I guess some really do like it hot. Yesterday, in 100-degree heat, a (presumably male) catbird on my deck was putting on quite a show for a (presumably female) spectator. His back feathers were highly fluffed up, his tail was spread, he held a large dead leaf in his beak, and he repeatedly bowed and pranced in an impressive manner.
Even for a second brood, isn't it rather late in the season to be engaging in this behavior?
