SPARROW, and DICKCISSEL.

A GREAT WHITE HERON*, a color morph of the GREAT BLUE HERON, was found

MD.

AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS* continued to be seen in DE last week with
reports from Thousand Acre Marsh near Delaware City and from Fowler
Beach, Sussex Co.

A juvenile BROWN PELICAN was on the Anacostia River near the Navy Yard
in Washington, DC on July 5.

Two female WILSON'S PHALAROPES at Bombay Hook NWR, Kent Co, DE on July
9 are a taste of the south-bound shorebird migration that has started.

An ICELAND GULL was seen on Skimmer Island, Ocean City, Worcester Co,
MD on July 5.

The efforts to protect RED-COCKADED WOODPECKERS at the Nature
Conservancy's Piney Grove Preserve in Virginia are succeeding. There
were 10 breeding pairs this year that produced a record total of 26
young. There are now 45 adult birds, the highest total in more than 20
years.

A HENSLOW'S SPARROW was found July 6 along Old Legislative Rd,
Allegany Co, MD.

A DICKCISSEL was seen along Long Neck Rd, St Marys Co, MD on July 7. A
singing DICKCISSEL was found near the intersection of Latimer's Siding
RD and Rt 600 in Northampton Co, VA on July 6. Four DICKCISSELS were
seen by a pond at Borden Springs Rd, Clarke Co, VA on July 9.

Most of this week's reports have been gleaned from the MD & DC Birding
group on Google, VA-Bird, West Virginia Birding List, and DE-Birds
list servers.

The Audubon Sanctuary Shop (301-652-3606,
