For the past few weeks we've been watching a cardinal that has nested in the oakleaf hydrangea just outside our dining room window. Today the first of three youngsters left the nest and perched in the shrub, but tonight as we were leaving the house we saw the baby and the father on the driveway, right behind my car. I am glad the male cardinal flew up or we would never have noticed the fledgling. We escorted it off the driveway and into the yard while the father gave us an earful. I hope that they joined up again after we left and that the baby is snug somewhere, but it's worrisome knowing that a feral cat hangs around in the woods that surround our house.
I wonder if the other two will be brave enough to leave the nest tomorrow? I will be glad when they do, so we can use the dining room again!
