Subject: [MDBirding] Extralimital: help needed to ID Siberian ducks!

Hi All,

Apologies for this non-Maryland request. I am working with a group of scientists in Siberia right now, and am a writer for their Blog. Once scientist (Jon Ranson) is a Maryland birder. He comments about some ducks he saw on the Embenchime River for today's blog - and has sent me pictures. I'd LOVE to be able to identify them!

They are long-billed, brown ducks that are light under the tail and supposedly have white on their tail. Supposedly, when they see the scientists, they run across the water, hitting the water with their wings, and in this way herd their ducklings into the woods. Interesting birds.

Please respond off line, and I'll send the photos forward privately.

Thanks!

Joanne
