Jeff Culler and I started birding in Ocean City this morning and had 4 Sandwich Terns on Skimmer Island.
On the way home we stopped at Tanyard Marsh in Caroline County and saw 2 Common Gallinule's.
We watched 1 Common Gallinule building a nest at the base of a large clump of tall "swamp grass". It would carry 1 piece of grass about 6" long and drop it onto the nest and repeat this procedure several times. Then it would climb on the side of the nest and arrange the grasses. It then walked farther away from the nest. The nest was very well camouflaged.
We then went to Pennyfield Lock, Montgomery County and saw the two immature White Ibis's. Walk north along the canal for about .8 mile to the second impoundment. This is past the sign for Dierssen WMA. Photo at http://www.flickr.com/photos/55023563@N08/7592024860/
