Subject: [MDBirding] North Beach Marsh; Chesapeake Bay 19 Jul 2012

Greetings,

I spent a quick fifteen minutes looking at the marsh this evening at North
Beach in Calvert County from Wetlands Overlook Park. The number of Snowy
Egrets was a season-high (for me) 55. Also here were about 35 Least
Sandpipers, four Semipalmated Sandpipers, a Pectoral Sandpiper, and fifteen 15
Killdeer. It was the biggest assortment of shorebirds I've seen since
spring. The water level has dropped considerably since yesterday evening, which
might bode well for the next few days at least.

While sitting on my pier just over the line in Anne Arundel County at about
eight-thirty, I watched three Brown Pelicans head up the bay. I've had
them before from here, but it has been a few years. These birds were closer
than previous years; I'd estimate that they were under a mile away, and
maybe half that. There was a pretty stiff southeast wind this evening, so
perhaps that has something to do with them being a bit closer to shore.

Cheers,

Todd
