Top bird this week is BLACK-TAILED GODWIT in DE.
Other birds of interest include WHITE IBIS, MISSISSIPPI KITE, AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, COMMON GALLINULE, AMERICAN AVOCET, shorebirds, LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, SANDWICH TERN and warblers.
A BLACK-TAILED GODWIT was located at Prime Hook NWR, Sussex Co, DE on July 20 and 21. The bird was along Prime Hook Beach Road.
A juvenile WHITE IBIS was feeding enthusiastically in the second impoundment above Pennyfield Lock, Montgomery Co., MD on July 17. Later in the day, the count increased to two and these two birds were also seen on July 18.
A MISSISSIPPI KITE soared across Wolf Trap Road at the RR crossing, Halifax Co, VA on July 19.
Opposite the BLACK-TAILED GODWIT at Prime Hook and looking toward Fowler's Beach one could see the five AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS previously reported.
Two COMMON GALLINULES were at Tanyard Marsh, Caroline Co, MD on July 17 and 21.
An AMERICAN AVOCET was in the muddy area in the grassy fields of West Potomac Park, DC on July 23.
The Shorebird survey at Chincoteague NWR, Accomack Co, VA on July 17, tallied 18 shorebird species including 105 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 56 SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 67 PIPING PLOVER and 221 RED KNOTS. Three UPLAND SANDPIPERS were at Shriver Road, off Harney Road in Emmitsburg, Frederick Co, MD on July 20. A STILT SANDPIPER and a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER were picked out of the heat shimmer at Swan Creek dredge containment facility, Anne Arundel Co, MD on July 19. At least 12 STILT SANDPIPERS and many SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were at Pickering Creek Audubon Center, Talbot Co, MD on July 21. A PECTORAL SANDPIPER was on the softball field in Potomac Park, DC on July 22. A trip to Hart-Miller Island, Baltimore Co, MD on July 23 recorded 11 species of shorebird including WESTERN, PECTORAL and STILT SANDPIPERS.
A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was at the Chesapeake Biological Lab's pier in Solomons, Calvert Co, MD on July 21.
Four SANDWICH TERNS were on Skimmer Island, Ocean City, Worcester Co, MD on July 17.
A migrant YELLOW WARBLER was a fly-over near Odenton, Anne Arundel Co, MD on July 17. An immature MOURNING WARBLER was at Blue Mash Nature Trail, Montgomery Co, MD on July 20. A pair of CERULEAN WARBLERS with a couple of newly fledged young plus a few CANADA WARBLERS were at Jennings Randolph Reservoir, Garrett Co, MD on July 22.
