Hi Steve,

Finzel Swamp has hosted several bird-banding efforts, but its population of nesting Swamp Sparrows has been emphasized in particular. Due to proximity to Frostburg and the uniqueness of the site, many biology students from FSU complete research at Finzel. I'm sure others can provide more information, but my guess on the species would be Swamp Sparrow.

Thanks,

Bill

There were Song and Swamp Sparrows in the vicinity (a meadow/low brush area about 1/2 of the way out to the pond) and the bird could conceivably have been an immature of either - it did seem small for a Song and lacked distinctive malar striping, rounded tail or breast spot. Any ideas about the banding?
