This morning I checked Shriver Road in NE Frederick County for Upland Sandpipers but did not see any. The field was being worked actively by a hay baler. I saw one singing Savannah Sparrow there and heard one Dickcissel singing at the big bend in the road. Juvenile Barn Swallows and Starlings were abundant. Checking areas in Carroll County, on Hapes Mill Road at a big alfalfa field one Vesper Sparrow was singing from the utility wire over the road. I also heard two Dickcissels singing in the field and a Blue Grosbeak singing nearby. I saw a Grasshopper Sparrow on Sharrett Road. At the Study Road farm pond were 40 Canada Geese and 3 immature Wood Ducks. At Cranberry Reservoir were 2 Great Blue Herons and a Green Heron. This afternoon at Piney Run Park off White Rock Road were 78 Canada Geese, 42 Mallards, 2 Great Blue Herons, 1 Great Egret, and 2 Green Herons. The vegetation here is very dense due to the abundant rain this summer. The trail was completely overgrown in spots and difficult to follow.
