Subject: [MDBirding] MD Comprehensive List

MD Birders,
Since there is likely MANY more participants on the MDBirding list serve
now, I thought I'd re-introduce everyone to the Maryland Comprehensive List
of birds. This list is a simple spreadsheet of bird species observed in
Maryland that documents the location, date, and observer for the first
sighting of each species for the year. In addition, it keeps a tally of
bird species observed each month. The list is populated through the
integration of records from E-bird, MDBirding, and word of mouth. Records
obtained via word of mouth are perhaps the greatest advantage of the
Comprehensive List as it allows, for example, sensitive species or those
observed on private property to be documented without the risk of
disturbance or mass violation of property rights. The annual Comprehensive
List has been maintained for a number of years and is posted on Bill
Hubick's web site. The latest 2012 Comp. List can be found at:
http://www.billhubick.com/docs/MD_Comp_List_2012.pdf

Work and travel over the past couple of months has put me a bit behind in
updating this list, but I'm close to completing the latest update and need
your help. If you have observed a bird that would be new to the list (or
for the month) and has not been submitted to E-bird or MDBirding, please
let me know! For sensitive species or those on private property, only
basic location information will be provided (such as county). This is
really the only way to ensure the list is truly comprehensive and
representative of the bird species observed in MD each year.

I'll post another message early next week once the updated Comp List is
completed.

Cheers,
Dave
