I was able to get out to Swan Creek at lunch today and was excited to find the south cell loaded with peeps. Unfortunately, as is the case most of the time at Swan Creek at mid-day, the heat shimmer and lighting was quite poor. The clouds covered the sun for a few minutes and I was able to get a reasonable count on about half of the peeps.
Semipalmated Sandpiper - 145 (exact count) Least Sandpiper - 43 Western Sandpiper - 19 peep sp. - 213 (the other half)
Otherwise birds were not numerous. There no gulls loafing in either impoundment. I found 13 Lesser Yellowlegs, 8 Killdeer, and 3 Spotted Sandpipers, but no other shorebirds. There were not many swallows around and I saw no passerine migrants in the woods. http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S11220158
Good birding!
