Subject: [MDBirding] finally, cuckoos!

Hi all,

A walk with the dogs in NW Branch Park (Mo. Co.) north of Randolph Rd. had little bird activitiy, but we were pleased to hear TWO Yellow-billed Cuckoos and briefly glimpse one as it flew across the stream. One was giving the "rain-crow" call and the other the full call. I imitated it and it flew over to take a look. However without bins, we couldn't see it in the foliage. Hard to believe, but this is my FIRST cuckoo this year!! The only other summer visitors heard/seen were about 3 Wood-pewees, 3-4 Acadian Flycatchers, 1 Wood Thrush and 2-3 Red-eyed Vireos. However activity at our hummingbird feeder has finally picked up with 1-2 birds in attendance most times.
