Hi Everyone,
I spent yesterday in western Maryland mostly looking for shorebirds, Youghiogheny Reservoir is looking especially good for shorebirds and had good numbers including a single adult STILT SANDPIPER, 1 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, and 13 PECTORAL SANDPIPERs among the impressive group of 203 KILLDEER, the full checklist can be viewed below. Other places I checked had less impressive results. Little Meadows Campground is still hosting the male RING-NECKED DUCK, and the COMMON LOON continues at Piney Reservoir as well.
Today, I birded on the Virginia side of the Potomac near Belle Haven across from National Harbor, there were good numbers of gulls and shorebirds to sort through with the best being two RUDDY TURNSTONEs foraging on the flats. A little while after I first observed them, they got up with a mixed flock of shorebirds and flew northeast out of sight into Prince George's County, I imagine these may have been the same two Dave found at Oxon Cove.
