Subject: Re: [MDBirding] Western Sandpiper in Howard County

There were a number of shorebirds in that area Sunday afternoon when we patrolled the reservoir by boat the only ones I could positively ID without my binoculars were the killdeer. Also this may already be known to the veteran bird watchers but there are cliff swallow nests under the route 29 bridge which crosses over the reservoir. Mike

This afternoon about 4:00 p.m. I located a single Western Sandpiper at Browns Bridge, Rocky Gorge/Duckett Reservoir on the Howard County side. Reddish feathers in the scapulars, long bill with dip at the end. It's the palest bird out there. Also present several Semipalmated Sandpipers, a dozen plus Least Sandpipers, and at least three Pectoral Sandpipers. And Killdeer.

Look out for the thunderstorm, which chased several of us out of there.
