Yesterday morning I went looking for Harford shorebirds with John Hubbell and Jim Green. They started at Perryman Park, but said there no shorebirds present. We then met at Tydings where we did have a nice flock on the closest flat, but low tide never really came with the constant south winds. After Tydings, we went to Swan Harbor then I stopped at Harford Glen on the way home.
This morning I went back to Tydings and found extensive mudflats. I then checked Swan Harbor before returning to Tydings again. Highlights below:
Sunday 8/5/12 with John Hubbell and Jim Green Tydings: 24 Great Egrets - nice size flock for Harford 1 Semipalmated Plover 16 Semipalmated Sandpipers
Swan Harbor: 1 Semipalmated Plover 5 Solitary Sandpipers 7 Lesser Yellowlegs 18 Semipalmated Sandpipers 10 Least Sandpipers
Harford Glen - Matt only 2 Little Blue Herons
Monday 8/6/12 Tydings at 7:50am: 14 Semipalmated Sandpipers 2 Least Sandpipers 1 Pectoral Sandpiper 1 Laughing Gull
Swan Harbor: 2 Little Blue Herons 6 Solitary Sandpipers 3 Lesser Yellowlegs 8 Semipalmated Sandpipers 4 Least Sandpipers
Tydings at 9:15am: 1 Semipalmated Plover 23 Semipalmated Sandpipers 5 Least Sandpipers 1 Pectoral Sandpipers
When I got home there was a Yellow-billed Cuckoo singing in my yard. This is the first cuckoo I've had in Harford since a night migrant over the house in early May!
Good birding,
