Subject: Re: [MDBirding] Birding on Facebook

Ugh. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, and I expect a Facebook page is
probably inevitable, but Facebook is now a public company with
shareholders to please. It's destined to further morph into mostly an
ad distribution network that seeks ever more-inventive ways to intrude
upon its users' privacy. I'd rather not buy into that, or require
others to in order to simply exchange information.

Most of the effects and dissemination of information you reference are
already acheived in MD in large part by having the single statewide
birders forum we are discussing this on now. If you want something
additional or more robust, I'd suggest something like the highly
successful Illinois Birder's Forum: http://www.ilbirds.com/ Perhaps
to draw in facebook users one could have a token MOS facebook page
that links to this forum (or fora) and the MOS website?

My two cents.
