Hello All, 19 of us visited Poplar Island today on a field trip organized by Kevin Graff and the Baltimore Bird Club. We got a little late start because of the rain this morning but had perfect weather on the island. Some of the highlights were: Least Bittern (only seen by a few), Cattle Egrets - a great comparison of black billed juveniles, older yellow billed juveniles, and adults. Virginia Rails - amazing great looks. Black-necked Stilts - including recently fledged juveniles. American Avocets - 78 MARBLED GODWIT White-rumped Sandpiper Stilt Sandpiper - 35 WILSON'S PHALAROPE - 7 BLACK TERN - 15 Seaside Sparrow

Marbled Godwit 1 Large godwit with two-toned slightly upturned bill, cinnamon color under wings and on body. Very nice that it flew in close for the entire group to view it. Sanderling 12 Semipalmated Sandpiper 1500 Western Sandpiper 1 Least Sandpiper 40 White-rumped Sandpiper 2 Pectoral Sandpiper 25 Stilt Sandpiper 35 One flock of 20 in the north cell. Most of the others on the south cells. Short-billed Dowitcher 7 Wilson's Phalarope 7 Non-breeding plumage, long thin black bill, white below, grayish brown on backs. Sometimes zig-zag swimming.
