After waking up late with good intentions of heading to western MD, I decided to head up to Hashawha/Bear Branch. I haven't been up that way since early Spring. It was quite a different environment since last time being there. Not much singing was going on, but the birds were quite actively feeding. I stuck around the pond area as that's where most of the acitivity was.
Bird's included:
Yellow-Billed Cuckoo(3 of them and they were quite vocal the entire morning I was there)
Wood Ducks
Kingfisher
Barn Swallows
Baltimore Orioles(still actively defending their territories, which I was quite surprised)
Yellow Warblers
Common Yellowthroats
Black-and-White Warblers
Green Herons
Red-Eyed Vireo
Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers
And the usual array of Goldfinches, Robins, Catbirds and Cedar Waxwings.
The highlight was seeing 2 small flocks of Killdeer flying East.
Happy Birding,
