Subject: [MDBirding] Patterson Park

Hi All,

I birded Patterson Park today from 4:45 until about 6:15 this evening. I was pleased, but not really all that surprised, when I had two migrant species among the regulars. First was a WILLOW FLYCATCHER. It was clearly a Traill's because of its large size and very worn plumage (Acadian should have moulted into fresh feathers, Least is well... least). I say Willow largely because Alder has only been seen once in Patterson Park and that was a late Spring bird, but also because it had a short primary projection, flatter crown than Alder should show and had no contrast whatsoever (between head and back or on the wings).

The second, much easier to ID; an OVENBIRD busy snapping up insects. Both of these birds were in the shrubbery on the north side of the Boat Lake, and the Willow at one point flew into the wetland garden just across the path.

Good Birding!
