I was doing my weekly glassware change on the meteorological tower here at SERC (Edgewater) when I heard a familiar twitter. I looked up and saw several Purple Martins rising up from distant trees. As I glassed them, I realized that there were about 25 of them total swirling up into a kettle. Like raptors, when they got high enough, they peeled off heading south. I didn't see any more kettling but there was a steady stream of PUMAs heading south. I counted another 15 before I had to leave. A few Chimney Swifts heading south, too. Never a dull moment on the tower!
