Subject: [MDBirding] 92 Cattle Egrets along MD 424

I had a little free time this evening and decided to go out to Sandy Point after dinner. However, the most unusual sighting of the brief trip was even before I reached US 50. At the northwest quadrant of the MD 424 and Rossback Road intersection was a newly cut field hosting a tremendous group of Cattle Egrets. I pulled over to the shoulder and was able to count 92 Cattle Egrets - including birds retaining some breeding plumage and immatures. This is by far the largest group I've ever seen in Anne Arundel County (I had groups of 50+ along St. Stephens Church Road several times a few years back).

Nothing too unusual at Sandy Point, although I did have a nice flock of gulls to sort through. Totals included 121 Ring-billed Gulls, 189 Laughing Gulls, 4 Herring Gulls, and 144 Great Black-backed Gulls. Also of note were two Royal Terns and one Common Tern over the bay. Good birding,
