Subject: [MDBirding] CBEC Merlin

Dan Small and I went to CBEC in QA today hoping for shorebirds and/or uncommon herons. The shorebird numbers were quite low: 1 Pectoral Sandpiper, 1 Short-billed Dowitcher, 6 Semipalmated Sandpipers, 2 Least Sandpipers, 1 Semipalmated Plover and 8 Lesser Yellowlegs. There were 9 Great Egrets, 51 Snowy Egrets but no Little Blue or Tricolored Herons. We did, however, have an early Merlin perched in one of the snags at the northwest end of the lake. We also stopped at both Cherry Lane and John Brown Road to scan Central Sod Farm where we had no luck with grasspipers, but we didn't see any big number of Killdeer either.
