Subject: Poplar Island Sightings for 14 August 2012

This report is submitted on behalf of Jan Reese of Talbot County, who
continues to periodically survey the flora and fauna of the Paul Sarbanes
Ecosystem Restoration Project at Poplar Island.

The summary of bird observations that follows was taken by permission
from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and MD Port Administration, August
2012, Fauna Monitoring Report for the Paul S. Sarbanes Ecosystem Restoration
Project at Poplar Island.

There was not much change from the previous census. Various
species of "vagrant" gulls and terns are well represented. Most notable
aresome species of shorebirds, especially Semipalmated Sandpiper (now
numbering over 2500), Black-necked Stilt, American Avocet, Lesser
Yellowlegs, and Semipalmated Plover. Most outstanding on this census are
Blue-winged Teal, Cooper's Hawk, Peregrine Falcon, Hudsonian Godwit, Ruddy
Turnstone, and 23 Black Tern.
