Subject: [MDBirding] Upland Sandpipers-Cecil County

At 2:30 PM there were at least twelve (yikes!) Upland Sandpipers in a recently-mowed field on the south side of Sassafras Caldwell Rd., not far from the DE line in Cecil County. This is the same field where Dickcissel are frequently seen. Last Saturday, on my way to O.C. for a family vacation, I saw three male Dickcissels countersinging on the adjacent power lines at the same time and saved the location in my GPS. On the way home from the beach today, I stopped at the spot to see if the Dickcissel were still around, only to find that the field had been cut while I was away. I first saw three Uppies close together in the middle of the field, then got out the scope and found another group of eight and a single bird farther back in the field. There may be more...I didn't do a thorough scan of some of the distant sections of the field. The GPS coordinates are N 39.37172 W075.77833. Hopefully they'll stick around for a bit.
