Subject: [MDBirding] Swan Harbor

Yesterday afternoon around 1 p.m. I stopped at Swan Harbor on my way home
from Harford County Airport, where this weekend we had a flock of about 14
Purple Martins stop by, along with 2 Killdeer and 3 Horned Larks.

At Swan Harbor I saw lots of youngsters: Mockingbird, Bluebird, and
Chipping Sparrow. I also saw a flock of 6 small ducks (females or
juveniles) that I think are Green-Winged Teal, although I never saw the
speculum color. Dark tail feathers, a hint of brown on the neck, and their
tiny size compared with the 6 Mallards that were there led me to that
conclusion. The impoundments had water in them so there were fewer
shorebirds than last week, but I did see one Yellowlegs, likely a Lesser,
and four peeps, which I think were made up of three Semipalmated and one
Least, but I don't know shorebirds from Shinola so I am reluctant to be
definitive on them. (Bombay Hook, by the way, is getting very shorebirdy.)
Other birds present included very vocal Great-Crested Flycatcher, Hairy
Woodpecker, and Blue Jays. I heard a distant Towhee, too.
