Subject: [MDBirding] Wilson's Snipe at John Brown Rd Sod Farm

We visited the Central Sod Farm on John Brown Road in Queen Anne's Co. this afternoon hoping to get a glimpse of the Upland Sandpipers that had been reported earlier this month - no luck. Instead, in the fields across the street from the brick house, we were treated to numerous (20+) HORNED LARK, a group of 4 WILSON'S SNIPE, and a small flock of SEMI-PALMATED PLOVERS.

Both the Horned Lark and Snipe were life birds for us! Even though we didn't have a scope with us, we did find a few Horned Lark close enough to get a good look at the head pattern, and feeding behavior. It was especially neat to see them sitting in any scrap of shade they could find. The snipes gave us a grand flyover, landing about 20 yards from us, providing great views of their striking plumage and very long bills!
