Subject: [MDBirding] Hairy Woodpecker

For 4 years, we have maintained a tube feeder filled with tree nuts,
enclosed in a cage to protect from squirrels. It is regularly
patronized by Downies, Red-bellieds, Titmice, WB Nuthatches, Chickadees,
Carolina Wrens and, sorry to say, House Sparrows & Starlings. Today I
had my first sighting of a male Hairy WP using the feeder, munching away
for 3 or 4 minutes.

Once or twice a year, we have seen Hairy & Pileated WP's from our yard &
wondered that they never used the feeder. Hope this bird returns
frequently.

Good birding-----
