Subject: [MDBirding] Swan Creek--Red-necked Phalarope, Baird's Sandpiper, Common Ravens

Hi Everyone,

I enjoyed a nice start of the weekend by spending a couple hours scanning the shorebirds at Swan Creek in northern Anne Arundel Co. I was joined by Dan Haas and Matt Hafner for the first part of my visit. Highlights were a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, a juvenile BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, two COMMON RAVENs (my first in northern Anne Arundel and first photos for site), and a high count of 26 BLUE-WINGED TEAL. The RING-NECKED DUCK, LESSER SCAUP, and RUDDY DUCKs continue, joined by a recently arrived NORTHERN SHOVELER. The phalarope was first noted by Jim Stasz earlier in the day and continued in various sections of the south cell, especially the NE corner. The BAIRD'S was first located in the SE corner of the south cell, and then it or another materialized among peeps in the NE corner. Unfortunately the heat shimmer did not permit any useful documentation beyond my field notes.
