Subject: [MDBirding] [MDbirding] Phalarope continuing at Swan Creek; Turnstone; Ravens

Hi Folks,

The Anne Arundel Bird Club had a very successful bird walk (26
participants) at the Swan Creek/Cox Creek facility in northern Anne Arundel
County this morning (Sat., 25 Aug). We tallied 63 species highlighted by
the continuing RED-NECKED PHALAROPE found by Jim Stasz and reported by Bill
Hubick yesterday. This is the third Pahlarope sighting for the property
(all this year), and the first time that one has presumably over-nighted.
Other highlights were a juvenile RUDDY TURNSTONE, a lone STILT SANDPIPER,
and mostly the same ducks reported by Hubick yesterday, except no shoveler,
but there was a male GREATER SCAUP, in addition to the continuing LESSER
SCAUP and RING-NECKED DUCK. Also of note were two COMMON RAVENs flying
together, first heading north over the river, then turning around and
flying south over the river past us, to make sure we all got to see them.
A PIED-BILLED GREBE in the north cell was likely a first for the season.

*** NOTE: Swan Creek/Cox Creek is an active industrial site and mitigation
project in northern Anne Arundel Co. Access is at the end of Kembo Road off
Fort Smallwood Road near 695. The site is open ONLY Monday through Friday,
7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please be in your car and leaving at 3:30 p.m..
Remember to always sign in at the office, to be on your best behavior
(people have worked hard to coordinate this access), and to stick to permitted
areas. This Swan Creek map linked here details where you are and aren't
allowed to walk. http://www.billhubick.com/docs/swan_creek_map.jpg. ***
