I had to drop out of pelagic due to maintenance issues with the old car.
John Landers and I went to ORV this morning after a quick stop at bayside point. Winds pretty strong out of East all morning.
08/25/12 - 730am-1030am Assateague Island NS--ORV
Great Shearwater - 1 Brown Pelican - 15 Double-crested Cormorant - 1 (flyby over bay, seen from ORV) Great Blue Heron - 1 (flyby over bay, seen from ORV) Osprey - 1 (flyby over bay, seen from ORV) Bald Eagle - 2 (adult, immature) American Kestrel - 1 Black-bellied Plover - 61 Semipalmated Plover - 4 American Oystercatcher - 6 Willet - 87 (two were eastern) Whimbrel - 10 Marbled Godwit - 2 Ruddy Turnstone - 41 Sanderling - 5253 Semipalmated Sandpiper - 2 Parasitic Jaeger - 1 (dark adult, flew in from the east then south over beach) Laughing Gull - 26 Ring-billed Gull - 15 Herring Gull - 278 Lesser Black-backed Gull - 21 (various ages) Great Black-backed Gull - 39 Caspian Tern - 11 *ARCTIC TERN - 1 (adult breeding plumage, loafing with Common & Royal Terns, roughly same size, very thin dark red bill, very short red feet, tail slightly longer than wing tip, gray underneath when facing me, my second in county, last one in early 1990s and one at Hart-Miller Is in May 2007 but no one provide details from island to MD Record Committee) Common Tern - 10 Forsters Tern - 2 Royal Tern - 153 Black Tern - 3 Mourning Dove - 1 Fish Crow - 2 Tree Swallow - 1 Barn Swallow - 1 Red-winged Blackbird - 1 (flyby south on way back)
