Around 12:30 today, 8/30, I heard what sounded like 2 Barred Owls calling back and forth in Paint Branch Park just off of Randolph Road where the Paint Branch crosses it, to the west of Route 29 in Silver Spring. I was on the softball field to the south of the tennis courts and heard the owl(s) across the stream. While my first thought was, "Barred Owl!" I admit my second thought was, "Is that a person making or playing that call?" It was high noon on a sunny day in August, after all. I did hear a softer call returned and then the louder one again, as if there were two owls communicating with one another. They called consistently for about 3 minutes.
If it was you making that noise, please let me know :-) If they really were owls, how exciting!
