Subject: [MDBirding] Governor's Bridge Nat. Area, Sunday 9/2 - 16 warbler spp., etc

What started off as a very slow (but very beautiful) morning at Governor's Bridge Natural Area in P.G. Co. turned into a pretty good day for migrants. Highlights included Cape May Warbler, Wilson's, Tennessee, Black-throated Green, Black-throated Blue, Blackpoll, Canada, Chestnut-sided, Magnolia, etc. as well as a slew of Empids (many "Traill's" most notable). Also of interest was a winnowing Wilson's Snipe, several Yellow-billed Cuckoos, Baltimore Orioles, a Pileated Woodpecker, Yellow-breasted Chat, and a fly-over Peregrine.

I spoke to a couple of birders (sorry I didn't introduce myself) who said they had a Mourning Warbler and Red-breasted Nuthatch on the trail that leads WSW from the parking lot up a ridge (past the old shelter with the pines - there is a fenced-in wetland on the left before you get to the clearing). I did not relocate either of these species but this is where most of the warbler diversity was in three large flocks. I didn't encounter them until about 10:30 am or later and only had 4 or 5 warblers in the previous few hours of birding here. The area around the pond (SE of the parking lot) was also quite birdy even up to around noon, having been silent for the earlier part of my walk. Full list below.

Good Birding,
