Hi all,
I birded Murray Sod Farm after the rains today. The first shorebirds that I found were a flock of 8 Buff-breasted Sandpipers landing in front of me! This flock then joined two more individuals in the far NW sod field along Blueberry Road. The only other shorebirds present were four Killdeer. An American Kestrel and a Red-tailed Hawk were also hanging out on the irrigation equipment. I posted a photo of a few of the Buff-breasted Sands on my flickr account.
The front of Ocean Downs was busier than usual with 12 Killdeer, 6 Least Sandpipers, 2 Pectoral Sandpipers, 163 Canada Geese, 380 Laughing Gulls, 210 Ring-billed Gulls, 26 Mallard, and 2 Black Vultures.
Skimmer Island was also productive for sunset. A single Whimbrel joined the seven foraging Marbled Godwits on the NW side of the island. Two American Wigeon and another unidentified duck were with the Mallards in the muddy center of the island. Two Sandwich Terns were with the Royal/Caspian Tern flocks.
