About 17 dedicated birders made their way out to Gambrills, MD for a
special visit the (restricted access) old US Navy Dairy Farm. Our
trip was fantastic.
Highlights included ALL participants enjoying rather extensive
(considering the species) views of a CONNECTICUT WARBLER and a fly
over MERLIN that actually diverted from it's typical straight line
flight to check us out... she gave us a quick look and then continued
South in search of prey.
Other highlights NOT on the list: one of our birders saw a brown /
dark largish bird with a long, thin decurved bill flying over, low and
towards the South. We looked a bit later for that bird, but none of
us got on it? Why? There was a Connecticut Warbler popping around,
actually flying over us into the field and back again into the thick
brush. Spectacular!
But back to that bird: unmistakable description, but how does one
eBird possible Long-billed Curlew / Whimbrel / Juv. White Ibis? ; )
