Hi Everyone,

While out running a couple errands yesterday evening (6 Sept 2012), I
chanced across a Peregrine Falcon near the corner of Dickerson Ln and
Troopers Way in Salisbury. The bird was using the large tower near this
intersection as a perch. This location is only about a block east of Rt 13
and a little south of Leonard's Pond, which is just south of Delmar.

This evening I picked up a new yard bird when a Common Nighthawk flew over
at about 6:15 pm. Other migrants in the yard the past couple days have
included Veery, Magnolia Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, and American
Redstart.

Have fun,

Hi Folks!

I am at the northernmost plowed field on Swamp Circle Road with 1 Buff-breasted Sandpiper in view. Far east side closer to the northern end.

There are not one, not two, at least THREE (and maybe more)
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS on the Northern-most sod field (now mud) on Swamp Circle Road, near Deale MD.

Dan,

We were there within 15 minutes of your post, and scoured not only the northern-most sod field (which was dirt but not mud?) and did not refind the buffies. There were lots of killdeer, two or three snipe, and mourning doves. And for some reason us two old folks walking the field attracted a very large kettle of curious and apparently hopeful turkey and black vultures, which ventured quite close. But no sandpipers of any description.

Can you be more specific as to the exact location? We'll keep checking through the weekend.

Joanne

...emphasis on "possible." I have no idea what I saw last night, but it wasn't a yellowthroat. Too big, and had a complete yellowish eyering and tail-pumping behavior. No streaking or wingbars. I described it to another birder this morning. I ran into her again as she was leaving, and she described a very similar bird in the same area, but also confirmed a grayish head and Ovenbird-like walk. All of this was along Minebank Run between the two bridges. When I had it, it was on the north side of the stream, to the right of bluebird box #17. She had it along the path on the south side of the stream. A 2.5-hour search revealed nothing when I tried to relocate it. 'Tis the season for amazingly frustrating warblers.

Morning all,
A few nice migrants seen this morning included a cute and tiny Least Flycatcher, seen well in good light (and in poor light) as it moved all around the yard, both high and very low (in a dogwood, below eye-level in full sun). It was very active, going from a high perch in bad light in the far backyard, to excellent light down low in the side yard, actively "flycatching", and at one point being chased by a chickadee!. Also seen were an angry Scarlet Tanager, chasing bluebirds from the grape vines up high in the back, an unexpected flyover RED-HEADED WOODPECKER, heading NNW pretty early, as well as a large flock of flyby Cedar Waxwings, Pileated WP, Downy WP, a pair of White-breasted Nuthatches as well as most of the regulars. No warblers though, but it was a quick walk as I had to leave early.

A flock of warblers were having breakfast this morning between 7 and 8
am in the parking lot at Violette's. The most surprising- a
YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER. On the scene: a number of Black-and-whites, a
Chestnut-sided, a Blue-winged, Magnolia, Blackburnian and Bay-breasted
(still showing some bay on the flanks.) The action was continuous and
I'm sure I missed a few.
Several of us were at this same spot yesterday but the light was so
horrible we were grateful to be able to ID American Redstart, Blackpoll,
Common Yellowthroat, Northern Parula, Magnolia, Black-and-white and
Chestnut-sided.
